Greta Lee recently got candid and opened up about why her Late Fame character holds a special significance for her.
For those unaware, the 43-year-old American actress plays the role of Gloria in the drama film directed by Kent Jones, which is based on a novella by Arthur Schnitzler. Gloria is “the enigmatic and alluring actress Gloria, whose style, disposition, and demeanor are reminiscent of the New York creative scene of years past.”
While conversing with PEOPLE magazine about Late Fame, Lee admitted that playing Gloria felt close because it deeply resembles those in Hollywood she has been admiring all her life.
She said, “For me, the idea of an actress is like [a] diva. That’s what I wanted — I wanted to be Liza Minnelli, I wanted to be Marlene Dietrich. I wanted to be one of those gals. And so, Gloria, she is absolutely a twin flame to these women, but in a world where nobody gives a s******.”
The Tron: Ares star went on to state that her character’s carefree attitude is what she admires the most.
Lee explained that there’s “so much strength” in someone who is “completely marching to her own tune” by sporting the makeup, hair, and fashion that feels right to her, and not what’s more or less socially expected.
“I also appreciated that the chance to do a bigger kind of performance,” she quipped.
