Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, the presumptive Democratic nominee, appeared at a rally in Portland alongside Bernie Sanders to mobilize progressive voters.
During a “Fighting Oligarchy” rally in Maine, Platner criticized incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins and slammed her with a label of “corrupt” politician while accusing her of selling out constituents.
“We are taking back what is ours. We’re going to take it back from the corporations that seek profit, no matter the cost from the billionaires for whom greed is the point, and from corrupt politicians like Susan Collins, corrupt politicians who have sold us out,” Platner said.
He also touched on several of Sanders’ signature themes, such as focusing on taking power back from corporations dominated by billionaires and advocating for a fair tax system while proposing a 5 percent annual wealth tax on America’s wealthiest billionaires.
Platner criticized US weapons spending, arguing that tax dollars should be invested in domestic infrastructure like schools and hospitals rather than being used for conflicts in Gaza and Iran.
Talking about the political revolution, he said that political speeches and politicians alone will not bring the change that we are expecting.
“No one is coming to save us. The man who is speaking after me has been fighting for 60 years. We need a political revolution,” he added.
Sanders also called for revolution as the political system and economy are completely rigged, creating unfavourable conditions for the middle class.
“You elect Graham Platner senator, you’re going to transform America,” Sanders told supporters.
