Donald Trump recently claimed that the word “affordability” was invented by some members of the media after he took over the Oval Office.
At the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa in Las Vegas on Wednesday, August 5, the president of the United States of America reflected on the Working Families Tax Cuts and the state of the economy in an address to the audience.
During his speech, Trump said, “Our costs are coming way down. You know, they talk about affordability. I took over the country. The prices were through the roof. In my first day, the press said, ‘What are you going to do about affordability?’ It was a word they devised — affordability. They never used that word before.”
For those unaware, it was not the first time the president voiced his doubts about the noun and its frequent use in politics, as he called affordability a “hoax” during a Cabinet meeting in December of the last year.
A journalist asked him if he really thought Americans were becoming impatient, especially when the topic of reform came up, Trump replied, “I think they’re getting fake news from guys like you.”
“Look, affordability is a hoax that was started by Democrats who caused the problem of pricing, and they didn’t end it when, look, they lost in a landslide,” Donald Trump stated.
It is pertinent to mention that the Oxford English Dictionary states that the word “affordability” was first used in the 1910s.
