Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry will hold an important press conference at 5pm today (Thursday) to brief the media on the country’s overall security situation and ongoing counterterrorism operations.

The briefing comes amid intensified counterterrorism operations across the country and heightened security concerns following a surge in terrorist attacks. Pakistan has also stepped up its response to terrorist threats emanating from across the Afghan border in recent weeks.

The latest escalation followed an attack at a mosque in Kohat’s Police Lines during Friday prayers, in which 23 people, including 15 police personnel, were martyred. Eight terrorists were also killed during a subsequent search and clearance operation.

Two days later, a captain and a lieutenant were among six martyred during an exchange of fire in Hangu district. Following a series of deadly attacks in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), on September 21, Pakistan carried out “calibrated” air strikes against terrorist hideouts near the Afghan border and conducted intelligence-based ground operations that killed a total of 37 terrorists.

On September 23, Pakistan’s air defence systems shot down eight drones after they entered Pakistani airspace from Afghanistan. Four were brought down near the Torkham border and four in mountainous areas near Kohat.

Two days later, Pakistan carried out “precision” aerial and drone strikes against 10 locations in Afghanistan used for launching and storing drones.

On Saturday, A suicide bomber struck a joint Customs, police, and Excise checkpoint in Darazinda tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan on the inter-provincial highway, killing 13 people, including two women, a young girl, and a Customs inspector, while 26 others were reported injured.

Earlier today, Pakistan carried out “well-planned and calibrated aerial strikes” against terrorist hideouts and safe havens in Afghanistan, with “initial reports suggesting 22 terrorists” had been killed.
