Cambridge shooting suspect Tyler Brown had violent criminal history, records show

New details have emerged about Tyler Brown, the man accused of opening fire on Memorial Drive in Cambridge and critically injuring two people.

Authorities allege Brown fired between 50 and 60 rounds during Monday’s shooting, striking multiple vehicles before being taken into custody.

Court records reviewed by local media show Brown has a history of violent offences, including a 2014 knife assault and a 2020 shootout involving Boston police officers.

In the earlier case, Brown was sentenced to prison for attempting to kill a police officer during an exchange of gunfire with authorities.

One officer involved in the 2020 incident wrote in a victim impact statement: “I am a firm believer that when Mr. Tyler Brown gets out, he will hurt, or worse, kill someone.”

Marian Ryan said Brown was on probation at the time of Monday’s attack.

“Mr. Brown is from Boston, and apparently was in the process of moving here,” Ryan said during a press conference.

Brown is now facing two counts of armed assault with intent to murder along with other charges.

Officials said his court appearance has not yet been scheduled because he remains in hospital following the incident.
