Winter storm warning in US: Blizzard to bring 18 inches of snow, 75 mph winds

A powerful winter storm is coming to hit the parts of Californio and Nevada in the dire warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) as temperatures continue to plunge and winds are expected to reach dangerous speed.

The NWS also placed Yosemite, Upper San Joaquin River, Kaiser to Rodgers Ridge, Kings Canyon NP and Sequoia NP under the winter storm warning on Tuesday at 12:38 a.m. Now the warning has been extended to Wednesday, April 22.

As a result of the incoming harsh winter storm, the states will be bracing for snow levels of 5 inches above 7,000 feet in the highest points of Sierra Nevada. Moreover, the winds are expected to reach 75mph in these high-altitude mountainous areas.

“Total snow accumulates 3 to 5 inches above 7,000 feet, with 12 to 18 inches possible at the highest elevations of the Sierra Nevada. Wind gusts as high as 75 mph along the Sierra crest expected,” NWS informed.

The NWS also warned the volatile winter storm is creating treacherous conditions for the traveller as the residents in the affected counties are not advised to travel unnecessarily due to cold temperatures and slippery road conditions.

“Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes. Strong winds could cause tree damage,” the NWS said.

If it is really important to travel, one must keep food, water, and an extra flashlight in your vehicle in the case of an emergency. “The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 511.”
