Ben Pasternak scandal deepens as Evelyn Ha’s ex boyfriend Fred Liu backs assault allegations

Liu said he had not planned to speak publicly but felt compelled after hearing accounts he described as familiar
TikTok creator Fred Liu has publicly addressed his past relationship with Evelyn Ha following recent allegations and counterclaims involving entrepreneur Ben Pasternak, as scrutiny around the situation continues online.
Liu, known for comedy and point-of-view videos under the username asapliu and with more than 1.7 million followers, shared a written statement after Pasternak released a video discussing his own experiences.
Liu said he had not planned to speak publicly but felt compelled after hearing accounts he described as familiar.
“Hi. I’m about to share something serious that I’ve kept private for a long time. It’s not easy to talk about, and I’m only saying what I feel ready to say publicly. All I can ask is that you read it with care,” he wrote.

Referring to his past relationship with Ha, which predated her involvement with Pasternak, Liu stated, “During that relationship, I experienced things that were consistent with parts of what Ben described. Including physical violence.”
He added that a version of events shared at the time of their breakup “did not fully reflect my experience,” explaining that he chose to remain silent to protect privacy and due to his age at the time.

Liu also clarified, “I’m not here to revisit the past in detail or to speak for anyone else. I’m only sharing this to clarify that my experience and truth did not fully align with the narrative that had been presented.”
The situation first gained wider attention following reports that Pasternak, an Australian entrepreneur, was arrested in New York for allegedly assaulting Ha on March 31.
He was charged with one count of strangulation and two counts of assault with intent to cause physical injury. Pasternak has pleaded not guilty and is due to appear before the New York Criminal Court on June 11.
Shortly after the reports, Ha addressed the situation in a YouTube video, confirming the end of her relationship with Pasternak.
She stated, “I’m no longer in a relationship. There’s been serious boundaries that were crossed and I decided to move away from that relationship for the sake of my safety and my well-being.”
Pasternak recently responded with a detailed video denying the allegations, stating they were “not true” and asserting, “I’m not physically aggressive in any way at all.”
He alleged instead that he experienced controlling and abusive behaviour during the relationship, claiming he felt “contained and cornered and isolated,” and describing incidents including “hitting, pulling, scratching… digging her nails into me.”
In the same statement, Pasternak said he had contacted several of Ha’s former partners, alleging they reported similar experiences. This claim has drawn attention online, with some speculating whether those individuals, including Liu, may have been paid to corroborate Pasternak’s statement publicly.
