Belcarra Park fire: crews battle wildfire near Port Moody and Anmore

Firefighters are responding to an out-of-control wildfire that broke out in Belcarra Park near Port Moody, British Columbia, on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the BC Wildfire Service’s Coastal Fire Centre, the fire is estimated to cover about 1.5 hectares.

Ground crews supported by aircraft have been deployed to contain the blaze and are working alongside the local fire department, officials said.

The Coastal Fire Centre said there is currently no immediate threat to nearby homes, critical infrastructure or public safety.

The wildfire is producing white smoke that is visible from surrounding communities.

Officials said the cause of the fire remains under investigation, although it is suspected to be human-caused.

Fire crews continue to monitor conditions and work to prevent the blaze from spreading. No evacuation orders or alerts have been issued.

Residents in the area are being advised to avoid the scene and allow emergency crews to carry out firefighting operations safely as the response continues.
