Avengers: Endgame Encore returns to No 1 with $26m opening weekend

Avengers: Endgame Encore has returned to the top of the North American box office, earning an estimated $26 million during its opening weekend seven years after the original Marvel blockbuster was released.

The re-release, which brings the 2019 film back to cinemas with additional footage and material connected to Avengers: Doomsday, took the No. 1 spot ahead of several new releases. It earned $11.2 million from 3,060 theatres on Friday before reaching an estimated $26 million for the three-day weekend.

Robert Pattinson’s new film Primetime opened in second place with an estimated $19 million. The A24 thriller had been competing with Avengers: Endgame Encore for the weekend’s top position after earning $2.8 million in previews and approximately $6 million on Friday.

The re-release also finished ahead of Heart of the Beast, starring Brad Pitt, and Forgotten Island, which were among the other major new releases arriving in cinemas this weekend.

Avengers: Endgame Encore includes changes to the original film along with new post-credit material designed to build anticipation for Avengers: Doomsday. The upcoming Marvel film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 18, 2026.

The latest box office result adds to the long-running theatrical success of Avengers: Endgame, which became one of the highest-grossing films in history following its original 2019 release. The encore screening gives Marvel another major theatrical run ahead of the next Avengers instalment.
