ISLAMABAD:
The registrar of the Supreme Court has said the process of classifying National Accountability Bureau (NAB) cases is underway following the court’s recent judgment on NAB jurisdiction, adding that approximately 300 NAB-related cases are currently pending before the SC.
The remarks were made on Wednesday during a media briefing by Supreme Court Registrar Sohail Laghari and Chief Justice’s Secretary Mushtaq Ahmed, who highlighted the court’s digital transformation and administrative reforms.
Ahmed said the SC is gradually working to transfer the authority for fixing cases to an artificial intelligence (AI)-based system to ensure that cases are scheduled strictly in accordance with the approved policy while eliminating human intervention in the process.
He said the SC is currently providing a total of 35 services, the majority of which have already been digitised and made available online. He added that work is underway to digitise another 12 services as part of the court’s ongoing digitalisation initiative.
Briefing the media, the registrar said that, following the recent judgment concerning NAB matters, the court is in the process of classifying pending cases. He stated that around 300 NAB cases are presently pending before the Supreme Court.
Officials also shared details of the court’s complaints management system. According to the briefing, the SC’s complaints cell has received a total of 50,830 complaints, of which only two complaints were directly related to court officials.
They said action had been taken against the concerned officer in one case involving allegations of corruption. The briefing further revealed that the Overseas Complaints Cell received 1,063 complaints, including 22 complaints relating to the SC, of which 14 have already been resolved.
