Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Zahara files to legally drop father’s surname

Zahara had already been using the name Zahara Jolie publicly, becoming the third sibling to make the change
Zahara Jolie, the daughter of actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has filed legal paperwork seeking to remove her father’s surname from her name, according to court documents submitted to Los Angeles Superior Court.
The filing requests that her name be legally changed from Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie. The documents were first reported by In Touch. Zahara is the latest of the former couple’s six children to distance herself from the Pitt surname.
A source close to the situation told Entertainment Weekly, “It’s sad to see one parent alienate their children from the other.”
Jolie and Pitt, once known collectively as “Brangelina”, met while filming Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2005 and married in 2014. Jolie filed for divorce in 2016 following an alleged incident aboard a private aircraft.
An FBI investigation into the allegations was later closed without charges being brought against Pitt, while child welfare authorities did not find evidence of abuse.
The former couple were declared legally single in 2019, although their wider legal disputes continued for several years before a settlement was reached. They share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne.
Zahara had already been using the name Zahara Jolie publicly. During her recent graduation from Spelman College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, the Pitt surname was omitted when her name was announced.
Her filing follows similar moves by siblings Shiloh, Vivienne and Maddox, all of whom have publicly adopted versions of their names that do not include Pitt.
