US Democratic Senator Adam Schiff has called for US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth to testify before the Senate over Starlink restrictions that disrupted Ukraine’s military operations.
According to NBC News, Schiff made the remarks during Sunday’s Meet the Press, saying officials must explain who authorised the slowdown and why.
“Defense Secretary Hegseth should be brought in. Anyone who has knowledge of what happened,” Schiff said, discussing possible hearings if Democrats regain Senate control.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously suggested the US government had ordered the restrictions, which were implemented by Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
The disruptions reportedly affected Ukraine’s ability to intercept Russian attacks.
Schiff questioned conflicting statements from US President Donald Trump and Musk about the satellite service.
“Somebody is lying here. Maybe they’re all lying in different ways, but we need to find out,” he said.
Musk has accused Ukraine of violating “Starlink terms of service” by using the network for offensive operations. He said SpaceX had closed a loophole allowing such use.
Ukraine confirmed on Saturday that Starlink and Starshield services had returned to high speeds.
The Trump administration has denied ordering restrictions.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio also rejected claims that Washington had prevented Ukraine from accessing technology needed for its defence.
