Zelenskyy calls out Pete Hegseth over Ukraine missile delays amid tensions with Trump

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth of delaying crucial missile supplies for nearly a month as Ukraine faces shortages of air defence weapons.

In a social media post on Monday, Zelenskyy warned that Ukraine’s stocks of Patriot interceptor missiles were running low while the country continued defending itself against Russian attacks.

“We have been waiting for nearly a month for Mr. Hegseth to sign off on missiles for Patriots and NASAMS,” Zelenskyy wrote.

“I instructed our team to raise this with the American side once again. Conversations with other countries are also ongoing,” he added.

The reported delay comes amid worsening relations between Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump over Washington’s approach to the Russia-Ukraine war.

Tensions increased after Trump announced plans to purchase Russian diesel fuel in an effort to reduce rising energy prices in the United States.

The proposed purchases could provide billions of dollars to Russia’s economy, potentially undermining international efforts to isolate Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine.
