Russia makes new move on Ukraine ceasefire ahead of November talks

Russia has signalled its openness to enter local ceasefires in Ukraine ahead of early November peace talks.

On Monday, the Kremlin said that it is open to short-term “humanitarian ceasefires” along the front line but with a key condition.

According to Russian officials, the willingness to enter into localized ceasefires including civilian evacuations or humanitarian aid corridors does not signal a broader halt or freeze to overall military operations along the front line.

In South Ukrainian city Oleshky, a ceasefire is to take effect on early Tuesday mediated by the US First Lady Malenia Trump after months of reports of humanitarian crises such as dire shortages of food, water and medicines.

When asked about the possibility of other local truces, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, “”For humanitarian purposes, absolutely.”

“The decision to resume trilateral talks does not imply any restrictions on combat operations,” Peskov said.

“Our armed forces continue to carry out massive strikes on Ukraine’s military-industrial complex,” he added.

Russia’s humanitarian gesture comes ahead of peace talks with Ukraine scheduled for early November mediated by the Trump administration.

Moscow continues to insist that any long-term or full-scale ceasefire must address its core security demands, including Ukrainian neutral status, recognition of territorial realities, and broader European security arrangements.

Next month, both parties are scheduled to convene with US envoys to explore pathways toward resolving Europe’s most severe conflict since World War II.
