‘The Odyssey’ steals Ryan Reynolds’ biggest box office record
The Odyssey has snatched another record at the box office four weeks after its release.
Sir Christopher Nolan’s highest-grossing movie has now taken the place of the highest-grossing R-rated film, a place which was previously earned by Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine, released in 2024.
The Odyssey has earned $1.352 billion worldwide and the number continues to grow, while Deadpool & Wolverine grossed over $1.338 billion.
Ryan, the creative director behind Deadpool & Wolverine, himself celebrated the milestone and gave the baton to Christopher and wrote on his X account, “Congratulations to the entire cast and crew of The Odyssey for becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time,” he wrote on X.
The Odyssey has become this year’s fifth movie, third R-rated movie to join the billion-dollar club.
After the movie, based on Homer’s poem, hit the theaters on July 17 and has grossed almost $516 million domestically and $835 million internationally.
Sir Christopher also broke his own record with The Odyssey as it now ranks as Nolan’s biggest movie of all time, surpassing his 2012 movie The Dark Knight Rises, which generated $1.08 billion.
The Odyssey stars Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Elliot Page, and many more.
