David Crowley defeats Francesca Hong in Wisconsin governor primary

Moderate Democrat David Crowley won the Wisconsin primary for governor after defeating Francesca Hong on Wednesday.

The defeat of democratic socialist Hong gives a heavy blow to the win for progressives in the battleground state. She sought to capitalize on recent progressive momentum which included Abdul El-Sayed’s victory in neighbouring Michigan’s US Senate race last week.

Crowley is campaigning to become Wisconsin’s first Black governor. He secured the Democratic nomination and is set to face Republican US Representative Tom Tiffany. Tiffany holds an endorsement from President Trump in November mid-term elections.

“Now, David is focused on bringing people together, earning the support of Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and anyone who believes Wisconsin is at its best when we work together and deliver results,” Crowley’s campaign manager Garren Randolph issued a statement.

“From day one, this campaign has been about what comes next for Wisconsin: making life more affordable, strengthening our schools, creating good-paying jobs, and making sure opportunity reaches every corner of our state,” the statement reads.

David Crowley is expected to address supporters at a unity even on Wednesday.

Addressing the supporters before the final results, Francesca Hong stated, “The work we have done will be remembered forever. I know we don’t have the final results right now, but what I do know is we are ready to keep fighting.”

Hong’s campaign manager Becky Cooper also revealed that in spite of the results she was proud of the race we ran.
