US accuses Cuba of influencing American politics in new report

The Trump administration has released a new US State Department report accusing Cuba of expanding its influence in the United States and supporting left-wing movements, marking the latest escalation in tensions between the two countries.

The report, titled “Cuba: The Capital of 21st Century Communism,” alleges that Cuba “has infiltrated the highest reaches of the US government, recruited and cultivated generations of American activists (and) backed an unprecedented wave of left-wing terrorism on American soil.”

The report also claims Cuba has influenced “a disproportionate share of America’s most famous and influential extremist movements,” in an effort to “turn America against itself.”

The Cuban government rejected the allegations. Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez wrote on X that the report was “the latest fallacy from the US State Department.”

He added it was part of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s effort to create a “pretext for sustaining a cruel and criminal economic war that punishes every Cuban family, as well as his aspiration to launch a military attack on Cuba, for which he is desperately seeking the support of US citizens.”

According to the report, the administration is continuing its hardline approach towards Cuba after reinstating the country as a state sponsor of terrorism in 2025.

The latest developments come amid broader US sanctions and increasing political tensions between Washington and Havana.
