Buckingham Palace had praised the England squad for its impressive performances throughout the tournament.
LONDON: King Charles III offered England football fans a light-hearted message following the national team’s FIFA World Cup semifinal defeat to Argentina, joking that it might be time to “drown a few sorrows.”
In a video released by Buckingham Palace on Thursday, the King and Queen Camilla were seen visiting the Hall & Woodhouse Badger Brewery to mark the start of its 250th anniversary celebrations.
Holding a glass of beer, Charles smiled and remarked, “Maybe it’s a good day to drown a few sorrows,” in an apparent reference to England’s World Cup exit.
The Royal Family said the visit celebrated one of Britain’s oldest independent breweries, founded in 1777 and now managed by the seventh and eighth generations of the founding family.
The brewery produces more than 9 million pints annually under its Badger and Outland brands and operates more than 140 pubs and inns across southern England.
The King’s light-hearted comment came a day after England’s loss to Argentina in the World Cup semifinal.
