US President Donald Trump said he is confident Iran will stop enriching uranium and abandon efforts to develop a nuclear weapon despite ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Speaking during an interview on WABC’s Sid and Friends in the Morning on Tuesday, Trump said: “100% they’re going to stop.”
The president claimed he had been directly involved in discussions with Iranian officials during negotiations linked to the conflict and nuclear programme.
“I deal with them. And they said that we’re going to get the dust. I call it the nuclear dust because it’s appropriate. And we’re going to get it,” Trump said.
Trump also suggested the United States was under no pressure to quickly reach an agreement with Tehran.
“We’re not going to rush anything, we have a blockade,” he added.
The comments came a day after Trump warned that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran was on “massive life support” following Tehran’s latest response to Washington’s proposal to end the war.
Trump had earlier described Iran’s counterproposal as “simply unacceptable,” deepening concerns that negotiations remain deadlocked.
The dispute continues to centre on Iran’s nuclear activities, sanctions and the ongoing closure of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
