Massive fuel hike announced as petrol hits Rs458.40 per litre

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a significant increase in petrol and diesel prices amid rising global energy costs.

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, flanked by the Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, said during a press conference that petrol prices have been raised by Rs137.23 per litre, bringing the new price to Rs458.40 per litre.

He further stated that the new price of high-speed diesel has been set at Rs520.35 per litre.

The petroleum minister said the ongoing war in the region has engulfed the entire area, triggering a surge in global energy prices.

He expressed gratitude to the president, chief ministers, and coalition partners for their support in the current situation.

Malik noted that unprecedented increases in crude oil prices have forced the government to take difficult but responsible decisions.

He added that under the prime minister’s austerity drive, salaries of cabinet members have also been reduced, stressing that the nation must demonstrate unity during this challenging time.
