Pakistan rejects US statement on strategic missile program

Spokesperson reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to constructive relations with the United States, based on mutual respect and equality.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has dismissed recent statements by the US Director of National Intelligence regarding its missile program.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan said the country “categorically rejects” the claims that its missile capabilities pose any potential threat.

Emphasizing that Pakistan’s strategic assets are entirely defensive in nature, the spokesperson added that they are intended to safeguard national sovereignty and maintain peace and stability in South Asia.

According to the statement, Pakistan’s intercontinental range limited missile program is based on the principle of “minimum credible deterrence,” especially when compared to India, which is developing missiles with ranges exceeding 12,000 kilometers a matter of regional and international concern.

The spokesperson reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to constructive relations with the United States, based on mutual respect, equality, and facts, and stressed the need for a balanced and responsible approach in addressing South Asia’s strategic requirements.
