Ramazan moon sighted in Saudi Arabia, UAE

Ramazan is considered sacred month of fasting, prayer, and reflection for Muslims around world.

Religious authorities in Saudi Arabia announced on Tuesday that the Ramazan moon had been sighted, marking the beginning of the holy month. As a result, fasting in the country will begin on Wednesday after moon sighting committees confirmed the crescent in different regions.

In Pakistan, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Peshawar on Wednesday to sight the Ramazan 1447AH moon. The meeting will be chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, who will announce the decision after reviewing evidence related to the moon sighting. The session will be held at the Auqaf Department office, where testimonies and reports about the Ramazan crescent will be examined.

According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, zonal moon sighting committee meetings will also take place in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Quetta. The Meteorological Department has indicated that there is a strong possibility of the crescent being sighted on Wednesday evening. If the moon is confirmed, the first fast of Ramazan in Pakistan will be observed on Thursday, February 19.

Ramazan is considered a sacred month of fasting, prayer, and reflection for Muslims around the world. The month lasts either 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the Shawwal moon. During this time, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, refraining from food, drink, and other physical needs as part of worship and spiritual discipline.
