“We know Pakistan and how to counter them,” says Kiwi player

Kiwi cricketer Mark Chapman expressed confidence ahead of the match.

COLOMBO: The Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup will commence in Colombo with a high-profile clash between Pakistan and New Zealand.

Kiwi cricketer Mark Chapman expressed confidence ahead of the match, citing New Zealand’s experience against Pakistan.

Speaking at a press conference, Chapman said the conditions in this region make the toss particularly important. “Our players have experience playing here, so they understand the conditions,” he added.

He noted that pitches in India have historically favoured batters, creating challenges for bowlers. In such conditions, spinners become crucial, and he highlighted Pakistan’s bowler Usman Tariq for his unique action that disrupts the batting rhythm.

Chapman emphasized New Zealand’s familiarity with Pakistan’s team: “In recent times, Pakistan is the team we have played the most. We know how to plan against them, and every Pakistani spinner is a potential threat.”

He also noted that batting against spinners requires planning diverse shots, and New Zealand has bowlers who can adapt effectively to these conditions.

Chapman mentioned that Mitchell Santner is eager to take the field in tomorrow’s match. Meanwhile, Lockie Ferguson is rejoining the squad, though Chapman did not confirm whether he would feature in the playing XI.

The opening Super 8 clash promises to be a tactical encounter, with both teams relying on experience, spin strategies, and adaptability to subcontinental conditions.
