Six killed, three Injured in rain-related incidents in Karachi

KARACHI: At least six people lost their lives and three others, including children, were injured in multiple incidents caused by heavy rain and strong winds across the city, rescue officials said.

In Old Golimar, a rickshaw driver was killed when a house wall collapsed onto his vehicle. In Orangi Town, three children sustained injuries after a wall caved in.

In Surjani, a laborer died during work-related activity, while another fatal incident occurred in PIB Colony where a man lost his life during work. In Surjani Sector 7A, a 12-year-old girl died in an incident while playing.

Separately, an unidentified man was killed in a work-related incident on M.A. Jinnah Road, while a laborer died in a similar incident in Ahsanabad along the Super Highway.

Rescue officials confirmed that the deceased and injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Civil Hospital for necessary medical procedures.

Meanwhile, significant rainfall was recorded across various parts of the city between 6:00am and 5:00pm, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Nazimabad received the highest rainfall at 69.9 mm, followed by Keamari with 56 mm and Saadi Town with 48 mm. Gulistan-e-Jauhar recorded 44.2 mm, while Bahria Town received 43.5 mm of rain.

Other areas also witnessed substantial downpours, including Orangi Town (39.4 mm), Gulshan-e-Maymar (36 mm), Jinnah Terminal (35 mm), and Surjani Town (35 mm). DHA recorded 33 mm, Old Airport 32.6 mm, and Shahrah-e-Faisal 30.4 mm.

Meanwhile, Maripur received 29 mm of rainfall, North Karachi 28.8 mm, Korangi 18.2 mm, and Gulshan-e-Hadeed recorded 17 mm.

The Met Office noted that the widespread rainfall contributed to urban flooding and disruptions in several parts of the city.
