Saudi and Iranian foreign ministers hold first call after ceasefire

RIYADH: Following the recent ceasefire in the region, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Iran held their first official telephone conversation to discuss de-escalation efforts.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Abbas Araghchi contacted Saudi Arabia Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, according to the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two leaders exchanged views on bilateral relations and the latest regional developments.

Both leaders stressed the importance of reducing tensions and taking steps to ensure regional stability.

Notably, this marks the first official contact between the two countries since the ceasefire involving the United States, Iran, and Israel.

Earlier, An Iranian delegation will arrive in Pakistani capital Islamabad on Thursday night for talks to resolve conflict with the US and Israel, Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan said on Thursday.

Earlier, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated that U.S. President Donald Trump is sending his negotiation team to Islamabad for talks with Iran.

According to the White House spokesperson, the delegation will include J.D Vance, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and the team will hold discussions in Islamabad on Saturday morning.
