Ruth Jones turns down ‘Celebrity Traitors’ over wetsuit fears

Ruth Jones has confirmed she will not appear on the next series of Celebrity Traitors, despite being approached by the programme’s producers.

The Gavin & Stacey star said she enjoys the show but decided against taking part after realising some of the challenges would push her out of her comfort zone.

“I want to address this,” Jones said. “I was asked about doing it. I do love the show and thought it would be great. But then I realised I’d have to swim in a lake and wear a wetsuit. I’d rather just watch it, so I’m not doing it.”

Reports first suggested in October that Jones was in talks to join the second series of the celebrity version of the hit reality competition. Her possible involvement had excited many fans of the long-running sitcom.

Several other well-known names are believed to have been approached for the upcoming series, including David Mitchell, Amanda Holden, Steve Pemberton and Joanne McNally.

The news comes as the BBC recently confirmed a major three-year deal to continue both The Traitors and its celebrity spin-off. The show, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, first launched in 2022 and quickly became one of the broadcaster’s most popular reality programmes.

Under the new deal, the main series will continue for several more seasons, keeping the show on air until at least 2030. The celebrity version is also set to return for multiple new series over the coming years.

Although Jones will not be taking part, fans can still expect the next series of Celebrity Traitors to arrive later this year.
