PM Shehbaz declares instant Rs80 drop in petrol prices

The government has announced PKR 129 billion in petrol subsidies to alleviate the impact on the public.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the nation, highlighting the unprecedented rise in global oil prices and the resulting challenges for ordinary citizens.

He emphasized that national resources are limited and that inflation has strained even the world’s strongest economies. “I understand the hardships faced by common Pakistanis,” he said.

The Prime Minister outlined the recent national consultation on relief measures, noting that the President hosted a meeting with all provincial chiefs, the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, and a field marshal to discuss coordinated action.

Key relief measures announced include:

Subsidies of PKR 70,000 for small trucks, PKR 80,000 for large trucks, and PKR 100,000 for public transport operators per month.

PKR 100 per liter subsidy for goods-carrying vehicles.

PKR 1,500 per acre support for small farmers.

No increase in economy-class fares in Pakistan Railways.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude to provincial chief ministers for their immediate commitment of resources toward this national initiative.
