Pakistan continues ceasefire efforts amid regional tensions, says PM

He emphasized domestic measures to mitigate economic pressures, stating that CMs have pledged support.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan is actively pursuing ceasefire efforts as regional tensions continue to impact the country economically.

Addressing a meeting on the current situation in the region, he said Pakistan has also been heavily affected by the ongoing conflict in Iran, resulting in significant economic challenges.

He highlighted the efforts of the Deputy Prime Minister in working tirelessly to reduce regional tensions. “We have made every effort to extinguish the flames of war in the region, and Pakistan’s ceasefire initiatives remain ongoing,” he said.

The Prime Minister noted that two Pakistani ships stationed in the Strait of Hormuz successfully passed through the area due to the coordinated efforts of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and the Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

He emphasized domestic measures to mitigate economic pressures, stating that provincial chief ministers have pledged support in addressing war-related challenges.

“Within three weeks, the federal government reduced PSDP allocations by PKR 100 billion, and parliamentarians ensured fuel conservation,” he added.

PM Sharif further stressed that both federal and provincial governments should prioritize projects that provide immediate economic relief to the public.

“Our focus must be on protecting ordinary citizens, supporting agriculture, and securing funds to shield the population from hardships. Political stability is essential for economic stability,” he concluded.
