Nuclear fuel from Russia: Alexey Likhachev, head of Rosatom, the Russian state nuclear corporation, has announced that India will receive next-generation nuclear fuel this summer, ANI reported Russia Today (RT) as saying. He emphasized India’s role as a key partner in the nuclear field.
Likhachev hosted Ajit Kumar Mohanty, chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, in Russia’s Tomsk region in Siberia on Thursday.During the visit, Mohanty was shown the fourth-generation site that will house the safest atomic reactor in history, according to RT-India.
Likhachev commended the cooperation between Russia and India, reiterating India’s significance as a key partner in the nuclear sector. The leaders of the Russian and Indian nuclear industries met in Seversk, Tomsk region, and visited the construction site of the Pilot Demonstration Energy Complex (PDEC), which is part of the “Proryv” (“the Breakthrough”) strategic industry project, as stated by Rosatom.

During the joint visit, the prospective areas of Russian-Indian cooperation in the nuclear field were thoroughly discussed. Likhachev expressed Russia’s readiness to significantly expand cooperation with India in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, including the serial construction of high-capacity nuclear power units at a new site in India, the implementation of land-based and floating low-power generation projects, cooperation in the nuclear fuel cycle area, and non-power applications of nuclear technologies.
Mohanty’s visit to Tomsk, Russia, was accompanied by Vinay Kumar, the Indian ambassador to Russia. They also visited Tomsk State University and met with regional governor Vladimir Mazur, as reported by RT-India.
During his meeting with Mazur, Ambassador Kumar explored potential areas of cooperation, such as pharmaceuticals, high technology, education, and research. At Tomsk State University, Kumar delivered an open lecture titled “India-Russia relations in the current global scenario” and interacted with Indian students from various universities in Tomsk.
