ISLAMABAD:
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) hiked on Saturday the per unit price of electricity by Rs3.25 per unit, leading to an additional burden of Rs34 billion on power consumers.
The power authority issued an official notification in this regard stating that the increase was made in the context of quarterly fuel adjustment, which will be applicable for the three months of June, July and August.
Nepra also sent the decision of increasing the energy rate to the federal government.

Power distribution companies (DISCOs) had requested NEPRA’s approval to impose an additional charge of Rs3.488 per unit on power consumers’ June 2024 bills, based on the April 2024 fuel charges adjustment, amounting to an impact of Rs29.2 billion.
Responding to a significant decline in electricity demand across sectors, NEPRA eyed an additional collection of Rs51.86 billion from power consumers under the third quarterly adjustment of FY24.
