ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Wednesday completed the clause-by-clause approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill, with all 59 clauses passed by a two-thirds majority.

The session, chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, saw Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar move the amendment for approval. The voting process followed two days of debate in the House.

A total of 231 members voted in favor of the amendment, while only four opposed it. During the session, opposition lawmakers walked out of the Assembly. Pakistan Peoples Party leader Khursheed Shah attended the session and was brought into the House in a wheelchair.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq allowed elderly and unwell members to vote while seated.

According to government sources, preparations are underway to establish the Federal Constitutional Court, which will be formed soon after the President signs the amendment. Officials said that once the bill receives the President’s assent, the judges of the new court may take their oaths as early as Thursday, officially marking the court’s formation.

Under the 27th Constitutional Amendment, the judges of the Federal Constitutional Court will be appointed by the President on the advice of the Prime Minister. The amendment has already been approved by the Senate.
