Kazakhstan’s President Tokayev arrives at PM House, received by Shehbaz

First state visit aims to boost ties in trade, connectivity and regional cooperation

The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, arrived at the Prime Minister’s House on Wednesday. He was warmly greeted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif upon arrival, with a large group of soldiers present in a display of respect.

The Kazakh president arrived in Pakistan yesterday for a two-day visit. This is Tokayev’s first official state visit to Pakistan.

In the curtain raiser posted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was said that Tokayev’s visit will “provide the two sides an important and timely opportunity to undertake a comprehensive review of bilateral relations, discuss new avenues for broadening cooperation, particularly in trade, logistics, regional connectivity, people-to-people contacts, and explore collaboration at regional and international forums.”

Yesterday, the president arrived at Nur Khan Airbase, where Shehbaz and President Asif Ali Zardari received him.

Tokayev was accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior cabinet ministers and other officials.

A six-member squadron consisting of Pakistan Air Force fighter jets also paid a grand aerial salute to Tokayev upon his entry into Pakistani airspace yesterday.
