IHC orders compensation for missing citizen’s father | The Express Tribune

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday mandated the federal government to pay compensation to the father of a citizen from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who has been missing for 15 years.

Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb directed the government to provide Rs3 million to Haroon Muhammad’s father before the next hearing.

The decision came during the hearing of the case concerning Haroon Muhammad’s disappearance.

The court also instructed the Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to ensure the petitioner’s security.

Besides, it ordered that a case be filed against the security personnel involved in the disappearance. The hearing has been adjourned for two weeks.

It is noteworthy that a January report by the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances highlighted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had the highest number of missing persons in the country, totalling 3,485. Balochistan followed with 2,752 reported disappearances.
