George Russell triumphs at the Australian Grand Prix

Antonelli follows in second, Leclerc left frustrated on third

Melbourne, Australia: In a display of precision, strategy, and sheer racing prowess, Mercedes dominated the season-opening Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.

George Russell emerged victorious in a nail-biting contest, while teammate Kimi Antonelli secured second, executing a masterful pit-stop strategy under the virtual safety car that outclassed Ferrari’s rapid-fire start.

The triumph marked a formidable one-two finish for Mercedes, signalling the team’s dominance and strategic superiority in the early stages of the season.

Russell reflected on the race, saying, “It was a monumental challenge. I noticed my battery levels were low at the start, made a shaky grid launch, and engaged in some razor-tight duels with Charles [Leclerc].

Crossing the finish line was exhilarating. The team’s effort has been extraordinary this car has finally delivered, and we’re commencing the season with real momentum.”

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc secured third place, earning his first podium for the team since last year’s Mexican Grand Prix. The 28-year-old admitted frustration over missing a potential victory due to Ferrari’s pit strategy misstep, which failed to capitalize on the virtual safety car advantage as Mercedes did.

Lewis Hamilton finished fourth, a mere 0.6 seconds behind, after a late-race surge that nearly narrowed the gap.

Mercedes’ commanding performance in Melbourne sets a high bar for the rest of the F1 grid, signalling a season that promises intense rivalry and breathtaking racing spectacles.
