HYDERABAD: E-commerce giant Flipkart has set up its second grocery fulfilment centre in Andhra Pradesh at Visakhapatnam. The new facility, spread over 77,000 sq ft, will cater to next-day delivery of groceries with a range of over 6,000 products including dairy, eggs, chocolates and staples.
It will have a capacity to service around 8,000 orders per day not only in Visakhapatnam but also nearby areas such as Anakapalle, Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Srikakulam, and Vizianagaram, Flipkart said.
Flipkart said it decided to go for its second fulfilment centre in AP after Vijayawada due to the surge in demand for groceries and daily orders from customers in the Vizag region which has emerged as a hub for online grocery shopping.
This expansion is expected to create nearly 1,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, benefiting small businesses, MSMEs, and local farmers in the region, it added.
Rajneesh Kumar, chief corporate affairs officer at Flipkart Group, said AP has been one of the key priority markets where Flipkart has been seeing significant demand for online groceries among local consumers.
