‘Fallout’ gets greenlit for season 3, filming to begin in 2026

Fans of Fallout have plenty to be excited about as Prime Video has officially renewed the series for a third season, even before the Season 2 finale airs.

The renewal, confirmed in 2025, ensures the continuation of the popular video game adaptation, which has captivated audiences worldwide since its debut.

First launched in April 2024, Fallout quickly became one of Prime Video’s biggest global hits, attracting over 100 million viewers. Season 2, which wraps up tonight, follows Lucy MacLean’s journey through the Mojave Wasteland and New Vegas, continuing the captivating story from the first season.

Vernon Sanders, Global Head of Television at Amazon MGM Studios, shared his enthusiasm about the series’ future “We are thrilled that our global Prime Video customers will have the chance to explore the wonderfully surreal world of Fallout further. Jon, Lisa, Geneva, and Graham have done an incredible job bringing this beloved video game franchise to life, and we’re excited to announce the third season well ahead of Season 2’s debut.”

The renewal comes as part of a broader plan to keep Fallout running for potentially five or six seasons, provided audience support remains strong. The early announcement should help speed up production, reducing the time between seasons a significant bonus for fans, especially considering the long waits typical for high-budget fantasy and sci-fi series.

Though filming for Fallout Season 3 has yet to begin, it is slated to start on May 1, 2026, in Santa Clarita, California. Executive producer Jonathan Nolan mentioned that production could commence next summer, depending on how things align.

Given the production schedule, it’s likely that Fallout Season 3 will be released sometime in 2027, possibly sooner, if everything goes according to plan. With production momentum carrying over from Season 2, the wait for the next chapter might be shorter than fans expect.

While Prime Video has not yet released a formal plot for Season 3, the Season 2 finale sets up several exciting storylines that will likely continue into the next season. The most notable developments involve the Legion and the Enclave both of which are expected to become central players. As the Legion advances toward New Vegas and the Enclave gears up for “Phase Two” of its plans, these two factions will likely be at the heart of the action.

The Season 2 finale also introduced a new character: a super mutant, played by Ron Perlman, who hinted at a resistance faction of mutants rising up against the Enclave. This plot thread promises to be a major focus in the coming season.

Meanwhile, The Ghoul character, last seen in the Mojave, might head to Colorado to search for his wife and daughter, adding another layer of intrigue.

Lucy and Maximus’ story in New Vegas seems far from over, and with the New California Republic (NCR) stabilizing the city in the wake of a Deathclaw threat, New Vegas is bound to play a significant role in Season 3. Fans can also expect more exploration of Vaults, including Vaults 32 and 33, continuing the franchise’s long-running lore.

With all eight episodes of Fallout Season 2 now streaming on Prime Video, fans can catch up before Season 3 begins filming later this year. As production progresses, more updates will likely surface, and anticipation for the next chapter of Fallout will continue to build. With renewed excitement and a solid production plan, Season 3 promises to take the series to even greater heights.
