ISLAMABAD:
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended the notification of Sadaf Ihsan — a female lawmaker elected to the National Assembly apparently on the JUI-F’s ticket — in compliance with an order from the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
The action was taken after JUI-F’s Hina Bibi filed a petition challenging the allocation of the reserved seat to Sadaf Ihsan. The ECP suspended the notification until the court decides the matter.
According to the Free and Fair Election Network (Fafen), the dispute arose shortly after the ECP notified Sadaf Ihsan as a returned candidate on March 4, 2024.
