In the final chapter of his political life, Nawabzada founded the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) in 2000, aimed at opposing Pervez Musharraf, who had seized power in a coup in 1999.

Despite his declining health, Nawabzada continued to travel and work tirelessly to unite opposition forces against Musharraf’s military regime. His efforts to convince exiled leaders, such as three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto, to strengthen the ARD demonstrated his enduring influence in Pakistan’s political sphere.

Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan passed away on September 26, 2003, just before the ARD could pose a significant challenge to Musharraf’s rule.

His death marked the end of an era, as he was widely regarded as one of the last political leaders of his generation who stood unwaveringly for principles such as democratic integrity, constitutional supremacy, and civil liberties.

Beyond politics, Nawabzada was also a man of culture and intellect. He was a poet, with two published volumes of poetry, and was known for his deep knowledge of Urdu and Persian literature.
