Connor Storrie honours USA women’s hockey team in ‘SNL’ monologue after Trump’s phone call snub

Connor Storrie used his debut as host of Saturday Night Live to spotlight the USA women’s hockey team following controversy surrounding the recent Olympics and comments made by President Donald Trump.
After the cold open, Storrie — who plays Russian hockey player Ilya Rozanov in HBO’s Heated Rivalry opposite Hudson Williams — began by addressing his rapid rise in popularity. “I am so excited to be here. Now, some of you may have seen literally all of me on my show. It’s a show that has taught a lot of people about hockey, and it’s taught a lot of straight women that their sexuality is actually gay guy.”
He later welcomed USA men’s hockey players Quinn and Jack Hughes to the stage. The pair joked about being too busy with the Olympics to watch the series. “It’s about hockey, right?” Quinn Hughes asked. “Kind of,” Storrie replied. When Jack Hughes quipped, “I got my teeth knocked out in the finals, does that happen in your show?” Storrie answered: “Metaphorically.”
The segment shifted when USA women’s hockey stars Megan Keller and Hilary Knight joined them to strong applause. “Don’t worry, we saw your show,” Keller said. Knight added, “It was gonna be just us, but we thought we’d invite the guys, too.” Keller continued: “Yeah, we thought we’d give them a little moment to shine.”
The exchange referenced a recording of Trump inviting the men’s team to the State of the Union, during which he said, “I must tell you, we’re gonna have to bring the women’s team — you do know that,” adding that he felt if he did not invite them, “I do believe I probably would be impeached.”
Storrie concluded by congratulating both teams on their Olympic gold medals, ending the segment with a light-hearted refusal when he asked to touch one.
