As reported by Reuters, the incident took place on Thursday, November 27, 2025, when a train was experiencing a test run for earthquake detection equipment and resulted in 11 deaths of maintenance workers, leaving two injured.
The railway chief informed, that the train was passing normally through a curve inside Kunming Luoyang Town railway station when it slammed into workers who had been wandering onto the track for maintenance work.
“After the accident, the railway authorities immediately activated the emergency response plan with the local government and organized rescue efforts and medical treatment for the injured,” reports Xinhua.

Moreover, rail operations at Luoyangzhen train station were temporarily suspended but resumed later after clearance.
China holds the world’s biggest railway system, which is praised for its speed and efficiency, with a network stretching more than 100,000 miles, carrying billions of passengers every year.
The latest train crash has been identified as one of China’s deadliest rail accidents in recent years-highlighting ongoing safety concerns within its extensive railway network.
Railway authorities informed that the accident is not the first incident of such kind, as there have been a lot more deadly disasters and train crashes reported in recent years.
Additionally, the shocking train crash news came just days after the incident where two trains smashed into each other in Slovakia, injuring at least 100 people among 800 on board after the collision.
The accident also reminds, about the high-profile incidents, such as the 2011 train crash in the eastern province of Zhejiang that killed 40 and injured 200 passengers.
