Drake gets Backstreet Boys surprise for 40th birthday
With Drake turning 40, it is expected that the birthday bash he planned to throw would knock the socks off his fans, and it just did.
In addition to several eye-catching attractions, the star-studded party got the Backstreet Boys, a hit pop group.
In front of over 400 guests, the Backstreet Boys reunion got even more special when they performed their hit track, “I Want It That Way.”
For Drizzy, the 1999 track held significance, as he said the song reminds him of his bar mitzvah, a ceremony in Jewish tradition, when a girl, he recalled, asked him to dance with her, making him feel, in his view, acknowledged for the first time.
“That was the first time I ever felt acknowledged, and the first time I ever felt like I had a shot at being cool,” he told the crowd, adding it is “one of the greatest songs of all time.
Additionally, Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Graham, delivered an awe-inspiring speech that stretched beyond his music and fame.
“Tonight is not about a tour or an album release or a bunch of videos we shot or a fragrance or a Nike shoe. Tonight is just about being alive, staying alive,” he said in a reflective tone to the crowd.
The speech offered insight into the One Dance hitmaker’s personal side.
Moreover, the birthday bash comes as Drake has been relishing a successful phase in his career.
A key milestone Drizzy recently hit was surpassing 350 million certified units, making the rapper achieve a major Recording Industry Association of America certification milestone.
His 2016 album Views earned Diamond certification, and it includes Marvin’s Room and In My Feelings.
Not to mention the Grammy win in 2016, the artist has earned these certifications, three albums, and, among them, Iceman became a chart-topping album.
