Macklemore’s decade-old smash Can’t Hold Us is experiencing a major resurgence, reaching new career highs on two global Billboard charts amid renewed attention surrounding the rapper.
The 2011 track, recorded with Ryan Lewis and Ray Dalton, climbed from No. 146 to No. 100 on the Billboard Global 200 this week. It also jumped from No. 121 to No. 80 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, giving Macklemore his highest-ever positions on both rankings.
The renewed success comes more than a decade after Can’t Hold Us became one of Macklemore and Lewis’ biggest hits. The song was released as a single from their 2012 album The Heist and eventually topped the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the duo’s second No. 1 after Thrift Shop.
Macklemore’s recent chart resurgence follows the controversy surrounding his removal from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour. The rapper was dropped from the tour after making pro-Palestinian comments while performing at MetLife Stadium, with Sheeran later saying the decision was made by the tour promoter after venues objected to Macklemore remaining on the bill.
The renewed attention has also brought Macklemore’s political track Hind’s Hall back into the charts. The song has re-entered Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart at No. 10 after selling nearly 1,600 downloads in the US, according to Luminate.
Hind’s Hall was originally released in 2024 and was inspired by pro-Palestinian student demonstrations at Columbia University. It previously peaked at No. 7 on the Digital Song Sales chart, making its latest return its second appearance in the top 10.
With Can’t Hold Us now reaching new global chart peaks more than a decade after its release, Macklemore is seeing renewed interest in both his earlier catalogue and more recent music.
