Lily Allen has revealed she is “scared” of her longform interviews being dissected.
The Smile singer recently told The Cut that she hasn’t done many interviews for her album West End Girl because she’s “limited” about what she can say publicly about the breakup record and is “scared” of the headlines that may come out of those conversations.
“When I do longform interviews and people dissect them, I find that really painful,” the 41-year-old explained.
“I’m a truly, truly sensitive person. I don’t like putting myself out there because I don’t like the pushback that I receive. I also have no filter. I’m just not media trained, and I’ve never been able to figure out how to do the bulls**tting,” Lily explained.
She added that she wished she could do more podcast and talk show appearances to keep herself in the cultural conversation, but she’s “just too scared.”
Lily’s fifth studio album, West End Girl, was released last October. It was written and recorded in 10 days following the end of her marriage to Stranger Things star David Harbour, after he allegedly cheated on her.
The singer noted that she “doesn’t mind” people speculating about her personal life due to the revealing nature of the album, however, it makes her sad when people “really get it wrong” and make up “plainly untrue” rumours that she can’t comment on.
“But also, those are the consequences, right? Like, I have to live with what I’ve said and done before,” she stated. “And I think the mystery is engaging in some way. If I was to speak too much on it, then it would become boring much quicker.”
The Fear hitmaker confessed that she loves fame and attention but needs to put up boundaries to protect her mental health.
“I’m just too sensitive for it. I guess there are some parts of fame that I really love, and I want to be able to keep doing those but not if it’s at the cost of my mental health and sanity,” she said.
Currently, Lily Allen is on her West End Girl tour and will wrap it up in Australia in November.
