Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says US President Donald Trump has made a “final decision” to allow Ukraine to manufacture Patriot missiles as Kyiv faces continued Russian aerial attacks.
“There are concrete agreements in place,” Zelensky told reporters on Friday, according to CNN.
“During our last meeting, President Trump emphasized that, yes, I have made the final decision: Ukraine will receive a license to manufacture Patriot missiles.”
The announcement follows a meeting between Trump and Zelensky on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York this week.
Ukraine has pushed for months to secure permission to manufacture Patriot interceptors, which are among the few weapons capable of shooting down ballistic missiles.
Kyiv has faced shortages as global demand for the system has increased.
He also said on Friday that Washington had proposed three-way talks between Ukraine, Russia and the US, with the United Arab Emirates suggested as a possible location.
“Regarding the trilateral meeting, the US side proposed organizing it,” Zelensky said, adding that no date had been set. Russia has not committed to the proposed talks.
