Piers Morgan threatens legal action over Charles Spencer’s Diana memoir claims

Piers Morgan has threatened legal action against Charles Spencer, Princess Diana’s brother, over claims made about him in Spencer’s memoir, Swan Song.

The dispute centres on Spencer’s allegation that Morgan published “intrusive” photographs of Diana at a gym while editing the Daily Mirror.

Morgan rejected the claim on his YouTube show, Piers Morgan Uncensored, calling it “all bulls***” and insisting it was easy to disprove.

Morgan said the photographs appeared in the Sunday Mirror on November 7, 1993, before he joined the Daily Mirror in October 1995. He added that he was working for The Sun at the time.

Questioning Spencer’s credibility, Morgan said, “If Earl Spencer can be so incredibly defamatorily wrong about such basic facts involving me, well why should we believe anything else that he puts in this book?”

He also warned Spencer and the book’s publisher, Penguin Michael Joseph, that his lawyers would be in contact.

Morgan said he wanted the allegation removed from the memoir and requested a donation to the King’s Trust over the damage he claims the statement caused.

Spencer’s memoir has also attracted attention for his account of a 1997 conversation with King Charles about Princes William and Harry walking behind Diana’s coffin. Spencer alleges Charles said, “Rest assured, we’ll forget her soon enough.”

Buckingham Palace responded that grief can affect memory and judgement, while declining to comment on books as a matter of principle.
