American comedian Scott Thompson, known professionally as Carrot Top, was hospitalised in Las Vegas on Friday following a reported suicide attempt, according to TMZ.
His Friday night performance at the Luxor was subsequently cancelled.
His representative, Jami Schlicher, told TMZ, “Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs.” She added that his family and those close to him appreciate the public’s concern and have requested privacy.
Carrot Top, 61, was born on February 25, 1965, in Rockledge, Florida. He began performing stand-up comedy while attending Florida Atlantic University and later became known for his distinctive red hair, props and visual comedy.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, his estimated net worth is around $70 million, although Thompson has not publicly confirmed his financial details.
His income has reportedly come from decades of live performances, television appearances and his long-running Las Vegas residency.
His career includes appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late Show with David Letterman.
He also hosted Carrot Top’s AM Mayhem on Cartoon Network from 1994 to 1996 and appeared in films including Chairman of the Board and Dennis the Menace Strikes Again.
Carrot Top grew up primarily with his father, Larry Thompson, after his parents separated when he was 13.
“I was at the age where you don’t get it; I was surprised at it, and it wasn’t a happy thing,” he said in an interview with the Las Vegas Sun.
Larry Thompson, who worked at NASA facilities as an engineer and astronaut trainer, died in 2016 aged 76.
