Just Stop Oil activists have returned to Westminster, staging fresh protests and blocking roads outside Parliament to coincide with Andy Burnham’s PMQs. Their campaign against oil and gas licenses comes as a government significant decision on plans on the Rosebank oil field and Jackdaw gas field approaches, after the completion of a public review in August.
The group said on social media after sharing videos of police clearing protestors from the road: “Just Stop Oil is demanding Andy Burnham signs a Fossil Fuel Treaty and stops approving all future oil and gas products.”
Police officers were present on the scene carrying protestors into nearby police vans. The climate crisis is the most catastrophic global risk ever faced.
“We are destroying only our homes by burning fossil fuels. Oil and gas mean death.”
The protest signals a comeback for public chaos by Just Stop Oil whose last public protest took place in April 2025. The group declared on social media that it was resuming after a temporary pause after the Government pledged to stop oil and gas licenses.
The Met Police released a statement, “Police were called at 12:04hrs on Wednesday, 2 September following reports of disruption on Parliament Square.
“Officers are currently on scene and continue to engage with a group of people, believed to be Just Stop Oil supporters.”
“Specialist officers have been deployed, and some members of the group have been removed from the road, police continued.”
