Bride turns doctor at wedding as video goes viral, wins hearts

Doctor said she simply helped them because they needed medical attention.

A doctor bride in Kerala’s Kannur briefly paused her wedding celebrations to help two catering workers who suddenly fell ill during the ceremony.

Dr. Shirin Subair, from Panoor, was getting married to Dr. Rijaz when she was told that two women working with the catering team were unwell. One woman had a nosebleed, while the other felt dizzy and appeared to be faint.

Shirin immediately paused the wedding rituals and went to help them. Still dressed in her bridal outfit and wearing jewelry, she checked both women and provided them with basic first aid.

For the woman with the nosebleed, Shirin advised her to lean forward and firmly pinch the soft part of her nose for 10 to 15 minutes while breathing through her mouth. The other woman, who felt faint, was asked to lie down with her legs raised.

“These are basic steps to take, giving first aid and then getting them to a hospital,” Shirin said.

Shirin is pursuing her first-year MD in emergency medicine at Valluvanad Hospital in Ottapalam. Her medical training helped her stay calm and respond quickly despite being in the middle of her own wedding ceremony.

The moment was recorded on video and later went viral on social media. Many people praised Shirin for immediately stepping in to help the two women.

Shirin said that people at the wedding knew she was a doctor and asked her to check on the two women. She said she simply helped them because they needed medical attention.
