Burnham says UK will ‘support Ukraine 100%’ despite Russia’s threats

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said Britain will continue to “support Ukraine 100%” after Russia warned the UK of consequences over Ukrainian strikes using British-made drones.

Russia’s embassy in London accused Britain on Monday of deliberately escalating the war by supporting Kyiv’s attacks deep inside Russian territory.

Asked about Moscow’s warning during a visit to Wolverhampton on Tuesday, Burnham said Britain’s position would not change.

“This is the UK doing what it has long said it would do, which is to support Ukraine 100% against this illegal war led by Vladimir Putin,” Burnham said.

“We are not fair-weather friends. We will be there in Ukraine’s hour of need, and that won’t change.”

The Russian embassy said Britain’s actions “will inevitably carry consequences for which it will have to answer,” addng that greater involvement would result in a higher price.

Ukraine has intensified its long-range strikes against Russian military and energy infrastructure, using drones and missiles to hit targets far beyond the frontline.

Britain’s Ministry of Defence reiterated its support for Kyiv, saying the UK remains committed to providing equipment needed to defend against Russia’s invasion.

The comments come as attacks continue on both sides. Russian missile strikes killed 10 people in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region on Tuesday, according to regional officials.
