Cardi B opens up about needing time away from music

Cardi B says fan complaints about her music aren’t motivating her, they’re pushing her toward taking a break instead.
The rapper, 33, made the admission on Tuesday during a conversation on X Spaces, where she addressed criticism from fans about her release schedule and why some songs get more promotion than others.
Cardi said that when she faces criticism online, her instinct is to log off and spend time resting with her four children instead.
“When y’all complain, it doesn’t make me want to sit down. No, it makes me want to say, ‘I ain’t doing s***,’” she said. “How about that? That’s the type of person I am.”
She also shared that she doesn’t feel every song needs the same level of visuals or promotion.
“Not everything is going to have the same aesthetic as the other ones,” she said, referencing her past releases. “I know I have not been in the studio. I have not been doing all that s*** right now.”
Cardi also shared that she plans to take the rest of the summer to relax and enjoy life.
“I told myself I’d take the summer off,” she said. “I’m going to live my best life. I’m all the way outside.”
She also mentioned she’s been planning a private celebration in New York to mark the success of some of her biggest songs, though she said the event would be small and by invitation only.
This downtime comes after a busy stretch for the artist. Cardi first rose to fame in 2017 and has since become one of the most awarded artists in hip-hop. Her second studio album came out in September 2025 and debuted at number one on the Billboard charts. She followed the album with her first major headlining arena tour, which wrapped in April.
Despite wanting a break, Cardi hasn’t fully stepped away from music. She released a new single at the end of July that addresses her critics directly, marking her 30th top 10 hit on Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart.
